AMMONITE CAPITAL

Capital devised by George Dance who used it on the facade of Boydell's Gallery in Pall Mall ( 1789).
Used freely by Amon Wilds in his work and that of his son, Amon Henry, in Brighton at this time.
Seen first in their house for Gideon Mantell, the geologist, at Castle Place, Lewes, where the punning allusion to his discoveries and to their own name would not have gone unnoticed.

Date: 1800s
Architect: Usually Amon and Amon Henry Wilds
Place: Predominantly Brighton, but also elsewhere in the Wilds' work
