The west side of Grand Avenue was originally laid out with single, large houses, suitable for the wealthy of late nineteenth century England.
The location and size of these sites, together with the current values has made them ideal for redevelopment as flats.
Despite any misgivings regarding the individual grace or elegance of these blocks, the location is one of the few giving the necessary open space that allows the buildings to 'breathe'.
