This development, carved out to introduce a focus to the Lanes, was revolutionary when opened to the public.
It has been used as an exemplar for urban studies, and although much of the detailing is of its time, and a little 'thin' for contemporary tastes, it still shows a masterful handling of space.
The original scheme had an open square, and the addition of the sculpture has done little to enhance the originally planned experience.
